President's Message
I am excited to assume the role of president of TBS, though I never thought 35 years ago I would have the opportunity to make that statement. Like many kids, I spent an entire adolescence trying to avoid Hebrew school, much less any commitments that would require additional time at synagogue. Just ask my parents or any of my former teacher who were around back then, like Mrs. Spechler, Mrs. Magun, Mrs. Lewis, Saul and Miriam Grossman, Karen Rucker. (I hope I am not forgetting anyone.) What a difference a few decades make! What I do remember about growing up at TBS is the strong sense of pride everyone had when talking about "our shul." I hope that tradition will continue under my leadership. We are fortunate to have an excellent clergy staff, a great executive director and executive director emeritus, as well as a fantastic office staff, education department and pleasant maintenance staff.
There is always room for improvement in how we communicate certain decisions and topics to our members, but suffice it to say, we realize our shortcomings and will work hard to improve upon them.
Our shul is on the right path, thanks to the leadership of Steve Ravitz and the board of directors. I would like to thank Steve for the guidance and knowledge he has given me this past year in my role as president-elect. He has left me with a big kippah to fill.
Though it goes without saying, please feel free to contact me with any complaints, suggestions, or constructive criticisms as to how we can make TBS an even stronger institution. Just promise me you will also let me know when we get it right (which we hope is the majority of the time). I can be reached at Mark.Fendrick@ms.com. or leave a message for me at the TBS office.
Finally, please join me in welcoming our newest rabbi to TBS, Micah Peltz. Rabbi Peltz graduated from the seminary in May and after a nationwide search on his part, we are delighted we were able to make a shiddach with him (and his wife Rachel).
I believe as a group we can grow and become an even stronger and cohesive congregation. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
Warmest regards, Mark Fendrick Mark.Fendrick@ms.com
