Soul Sisters in the Torah
Join Cantor Cohen to explore the stories of our fellow Soul Sisters in the Tanach. Who were they, and what can we learn from them?

Six Wednesdays, 1:00-2:00 pm
April 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 23 -- Come to any or all!

Lunch and Learn Siddur
"Kabbalistic Prayer - Mystic Meditations and Mantras in the Siddur" with Rabbis Lindemann and Peltz and Cantor Cohen. Jewish mysticism has had a significant influence on the Siddur from the very beginning. Many of the prayers with which you are quite familiar have sources in Kabbalah, from Kabbalat Shabbat to Ein Keloheinu. This class will provide plenty of spiritual food for thought. You bring the lunch and we'll bring the learn.

Mondays, 12:30 - 1:30 pm
April 23; May 7, 21

Tuesday Night Talmud - Masekhet Horayot with Rabbi Lindemann
Horayot - Rulings - is one of the smallest tractates of the Talmud. What happens when courts or religious authorities err in their rulings on matters of Jewish law and practice? Who is responsible? What are the relative rights and obligations of courts, rulers and individuals? When it comes to rights and privileges, is there an order of precedence among economic and social groups or individuals? In addition to dealing with these matters, there are stories and legends about the Ark, Manna, Aaron's staff and various Biblical characters. As always, our study will consider the text from a variety of perspectives: legal, historical, literary and religious.

Tuesday evenings, 8:15 - 9:45 pm
April 24; May 8, 22

Morning Minyan
Rabbi Lindemann, Rabbi Peltz and Cantor Cohen each lead a short study session one day a week after minyan (7:00 - 8:00 am).

Tuesdays: Cantor Cohen will look at "The Book of Jewish Values" by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin. Discussing this guide to ethical living will be a meaningful start to your day.

Wednesdays: Rabbi Lindemann will continue studying Pirke Avot, the Ethics of the Fathers, with the minyan. This 3rd century text provides fascinating insights into the development of Judaism, conflicts with Roman rulers, and the complexities of a multi-sectarian society. How did the most well known rabbis of the Mishnaic Period deal with all of this? How do their teachings resonate in today's world?

Fridays: Rabbi Peltz will lead a discussion about prayers and themes found in the Siddur with the commentary of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi of Britain. His new commentary is rich with new insights that add to our understanding of how and why we pray.
