Tuesday Night Talmud
Audience: Adult Enrichment
Tuesday 8:15 PM - 9:45 PM
Masekhet Horayot with Rabbi Lindemann
Horayot - Rulings - is one of the smallest tractates of the Talmud. What happens when courts or religious authorities err in their rulings on matters of Jewish law and practice? Who is responsible? What are the relative rights and obligations of courts, rulers and individuals? When it comes to rights and privileges, is there an order of precedence among economic and social groups or individuals? In addition to dealing with these matters, there are stories and legends about the Ark, Manna, Aaron's staff and various Biblical characters. As always, our study will consider the text from a variety of perspectives: legal, historical, literary and religious.
