Who are The Capitol Steps?
The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. The group was born in December, 1981, and they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and create song parodies and skits which convey a special brand of satirical humor.
In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, collectively, the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.
Since they began, The Capitol Steps have recorded over 30 albums, including their latest, What to Expect When You're Electing. They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard twice a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.
Who are the event chairpeople?
The Capitol Steps chairpeople are Mayor Chuck and Stephanie Cahn, Former Mayor Bernie and Judy Platt, Former Mayor Art and Janet Simons, and Former Mayor Susan Bass Levin - proudly, all of whom are longstanding members of our TBS family!
What is the Election-themed Dessert Reception?
The Election-themed Dessert Reception for sponsors, benefactors, and patrons will be a fun and exclusive opportunity to mingle with The Capitol Steps actors following their performance, enjoy delicious election-themed desserts, and continue to laugh with friends!
How long is the The Capitol Steps performance?
The performance will be a fun and hilarious 90 minutes of music and comedy with no intermission.
What is the attire for The Capitol Steps?
Casual and fun!
How can I purchase tickets for The Capitol Steps?
You can purchase tickets to The Capitol Steps by contacting Jill Hammel at TBS at (856) 751-6663 x204. All tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. Patron (Vice President) Tickets are $136 per ticket, General Admission (Senator) Tickets are $50 per ticket, and Student (Intern) Tickets are $15 per ticket. General and student admission is open seating.
Can our kid(s) sit with us if we purchase student tickets?
Yes, if you are seated in the general ticket sections.
What does it mean to be a Benefactor (President) or a Patron (Vice President)?
The Capitol Steps Benefactors receive two tickets with preferred, reserved seating at the performance, admission to the Election-themed Dessert Reception, special listing in the event program, and 1 raffle ticket. Patrons receive preferred reserved seating at the concert, and admission to the Election-themed Dessert Reception.
How will I get my tickets?
All tickets will available at Will Call on the evening of the performance.
What if I have special needs regarding seating?
There will be a designated section for those with disabilities on the lower level of the sanctuary.
Can I purchase a raffle ticket if I'm not planning to attend the event?
Yes! The drawing for the raffle ticket will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 (at The Capitol Steps event), and you do not need to be present in order to win. Raffle tickets are $36 per ticket. If you'd like to purchase a raffle ticket, please contact Jill Hammel at TBS at (856) 751-6663 x204.
What time should I arrive to the concert?
Doors will open at 6:30pm, and The Capitol Steps will begin at 7pm. Seating captains will be available to help guide you to your seat.
We noticed that there are many sponsors supporting this event. How do I become a sponsor for a future event?
The funds contributed to The Capitol Steps will directly impact Temple Beth Sholom's religious and educational programming for both children and adults in the local community. How can I support senior homeless veterans at the Vineland Veterans Home and Veterans Haven, and where can I learn more?
Together with the Jewish War Veterans, we are collecting supplies for senior and homeless veterans at the Vineland Veterans Home and Veterans Haven. Kindly bring in new sweatpants, white undershirts, suspenders, tissues, body wash, lotion and spray, aftershave and cologne, handkerchiefs, hairbrushes, small digital radios, DVD players, iPods, robes, and pajamas.
