TBS Adult Choir: MAK'HELAT BET SHOLOM

Mak'helat Bet Sholom, the Temple Beth Sholom adult choir, was established in 1997 under the direction of Robert A.M. Ross and currently sings under the direction of Dr. Elayne Robinson Grossman.

Mak'helat Bet Sholom regularly sings at selected services throughout the Jewish calendar year, such as Mantle Changing, Slichot, Kol Nidre, Shabbat Shira, as well as for special-occasion services, such as student commencements/ confirmations and other simchot. We also assume a leadership role at TBS's spirited Carlebach Shabbat services that occur several times a year. Mak'helat TBS is a member of the Jewish Choral Community of the Delaware Valley and performs at its annual concerts. We have also performed at Interfaith events, geriatric homes, the Candlelight Shopping event in Haddonfield, NJ, and similar community events.

Dr. Grossman comes to TBS after attending Juilliard College, living in Israel, and directing New York's Choir Rottmann for 22 years (1977-1999). Along with her duties at TBS, she also directs the Sharim V'Sharot professional choir of Central Jersey and teaches wind instruments at the Abrams Hebrew Academy in Yardley, Pa., where she is Director of the Instrumental Music Program. Her publications include: "The Flory Jagoda Songbook," (TARA Publications), a collection of Sephardic songs from Yugoslavia), and "Help Us Bake a Challah; Songs for Jewish Children" (TARA). She is producer, arranger and performer on the recording of the same title

TBS Youth Choir

Join the TBS Youth Choir!

The TBS YOUTH CHOIR is open to all 3rd - 6th graders. Members will learn to sing Jewish music in one-part or two-part harmony and will have opportunities to perform at synagogue and community functions and participate in the annual tri-state zeemreeyah. It also serves as a vehicle to acquaint the Kellman students with the TBS Hebrew School students.

Our objective is to include everyone who is interested. The music is designed for easy singing with the addition of the 2nd part, which reduces the necessary singing range. A specially recorded audiotape makes it easy to learn the music. This twenty-minute commitment per week will give our members the gift of music, lots of fun and personal fulfillment.

We meet for rehearsals on Sundays from 10:50 am to 11:10 am, while all the students are in the building, generally in accordance with the TBS Hebrew School Schedule.

Please complete the enclosed form, or call the TBS school office at (856) 751-1824 to register by phone so that your children may take part in the frolic of Jewish songs and harmony.

Because of the short rehearsal time, everyone is expected to be on time for all rehearsals. I will also be delighted to hear, over the phone or in person, anyone who will call me in order to determine his or her vocal range before the first rehearsal. This will save us some time for the first rehearsal.
