Jill Hammel, Congregational Life Director
Jill has been part of the TBS family since 1987. She considers Temple Beth Sholom her spiritual home away from home since she has celebrated so many life cycle events here! These include Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, and marriage to her husband Geoff. She feels blessed that her three young daughters, Dara, Ava and Zoe, are starting to build their own Jewish foundations here, as well, at the TBS Early Childhood Education Center and Religious School. After more than two decades, Temple Beth Sholom continues to be a central fixture in Jillís religious, social, and family life.
Jill was proud to join the TBS staff in 2013, and she is committed to continuing her enthusiastic role at the synagogue in a professional capacity. As the Congregational Life Director, Jill engages the TBS community in synagogue life experiences by building relationships with current and prospective members, cultivating leadership and creating meaningful programs. Jill also serves as TBSís Special Needs Coordinator. Since Jill is a teacher certified in both elementary and special education, she is thrilled that she is able to leverage her experience in connecting with young families.
Prior to joining the staff, she played an active role in many facets of synagogue life including serving on the Board of Directors, chairing TBSís Young Members Group, Early Childhood Education Center Committee, Home and School Association, co-chairing several synagogue-wide fundraising events, serving on the nominating committee, leading fundraising efforts for TBSís Why It Matters Capital Campaign and participating in the Presidentsí Leadership Institute.
Jill was honored to receive a 2011 Temple Beth Sholom Service Award, as well as the 2012 Jewish Community Foundation Schreibstein Award for Emerging Community Leadership. She is thankful to spend her time at TBS partnering with so many dedicated people with a shared vision and passion, as well as hopefulness for TBSís bright future.
