Israeli Music and National Culture: An Ethnomusicological Exploration

The changes in Israeli music over the country’s short history illuminate significant historical and social developments. Through an exploration of many forms of Israeli music (including Songs of the Land of Israel, Israeli rock, Mizrahi-infused pop music, and ethnic religious music), we will use this unique political and cultural lens to understand how Israeli identity has shifted throughout its history.
