We Make it Work

Ron Safier, Executive Director

I would like to share with you a very personal story about why my family contributed to the TBS Endowment Campaign for Rabbinic Excellence. TBS has been the spiritual home of my family since 2002. In 2007, I sold my first startup company. In 2008, I used the proceeds of that sale to launch my second startup company. If I had a crystal ball and knew that we would be facing a deep recession, I would not have made that move. Money got tight. I told Eric Jacobsz"l, the Executive Director at the time, my predecessor, that we would not be able to renew our membership. He asked me why. I told him this story. He told me not to worry, that TBS would make it work. That conversation, that gesture, had a profound impact on me and further solidified the deep connection we already had with this synagogue, this congregation, and this community. I often tell this story to TBS families who request assistance with membership dues or school tuition, to reassure them and let them know it’s okay.

We help each other. TBS never turns anyone away due to financial hardship, no matter the reason. We make it work.

This is why we donated to the TBS endowment campaign. Not just because we are members and because I am the Executive Director. We contributed because we want to help ensure that TBS will thrive for generations to come. We have 64 families who have contributed to the endowment campaign so far. If you are one of those families, thank you! And I would love to hear your story of what inspired you to contribute to the endowment campaign. If you haven’t contributed yet, that’s ok. This is an ongoing campaign. Our goal is to have 100% participation. If you would like to discuss how you can contribute to the TBS Endowment Campaign for Rabbinic Excellence, feel free to call, email, or stop by my office. Use the link above to learn more about the campaign. And the new professional headshot? It was time for a change. I’ll use this one for at least the next ten years. Maybe twenty.  And I have another version without the hostage pin that I hope to be swapping out in the very near future.

B’Shalom,
